We went to see Dr. Chaplain yesterday and everything with me and baby is looking good. The heart beat was strong and steady, rate was in the normal range. I didn’t gain any weight in the last month which makes me very happy comsidering the fact that I feel like I am eat my face off most moments of the day. The best part of the appointment was when Brandon walked in with a Starbucks breakfast sandwich, which I promptly stole and ate (read: swallowed in one bite) in the car on the way home.
Most of our baby energy recently has been spent on narrowing down names. We find out if we’re having a boy or girl on June 17 and Brandon wants to have the names decided by then. The name game is not turning out to be an easy process. We both really like names of Germanic or Scandinavian origin, but I am quickly realizing that we have particular adversions to certain names due to negative experiences we’ve had with people throughout the years.
Take Hans for instance. . . cute little name, right? WRONG. Reason? Hans was a boy that I went to elementary school with. He was odd, a little stinky, and was totally in love with me for many years. One day at lunch I noticed Hans asking all of the kids for their empty milk cartons at lunch. This continued for weeks during which he added spoiled milk to his list of personal scents. Come to find out, his parents were asking him to collect the cartons so that they could make little paper houses out of them to invite people to their “We’re Paying Off Our House Party!” Luckily, my family and I received an invitation and of course, my mother insisted we attend. When we got to the party we were greeted by a ferocious three-legged dog named Bandit and a very dirty little house. Call me crazy, but I just can’t bring myself to name my sweet, pleasant-smelling, possessing-all-it’s-limbs baby Hans.

I have officially entered the second trimester of pregnancy and I feel the need to write a review of trimester one for the sake of prosterity.
First of all, I feel so incredibly lucky to have avoided the entire yacking-my-brains-out phase that so many women have to endure during their first few months of being pregnant. I can honestly say that I did not get sick once. There have been many times when I spontaneously developed some very strong opinions of certain types of food, but other than that I have maintained a settled stomach. I have however taken a liking to drinking anything that is a liquid. Well, and non-alcoholic of course. Orange juice, peach iced tea, milk, water, the list goes on. You’re supposed to up your fluid intake while pregnant anyway, so I view this as a positive.
Secondly, it is a very funny story about me thinking for two seconds that we were having twins. While I am ultimately relieved by the fact that I will only have to rear one child, those few days when the possibility was dangling over our heads like a grand piano secured by dental floss, were definitely entertaining. My favorite moments centered around my dear friends coming up with pairs of names for our unborn twins. These suggestions were so helpful, in fact, that Brandon and I were even able to settle on what we would potentially name the gruesome twosome: Britton and Branda. Classy.
Thirdly (this numbering of the paragraphs is getting awkward and will stop soon), I am happy that during the second trimester, you get to start showing your bump. Not that I want to walk around in a cropped t-shirt bearing my lovely mid-section. Let me rephrase that. . . your bump begins to show. While I haven’t gained much weight, I feel like any extra weight I did have has migrated to my stomach. So really I’ve just been walking around feeling like a chubby bunny, not like I was pregnant. Hopefully, that feeling will end soon.
Overall, I’m just very excited. We’re excited. And happy. We’re also exstatic that some of you actually want to participate in and read about our weird little journey. It makes us feel special and loved.
OH! I almost forgot. I’ve decided that I want to take a Babymoon with Brandon. You know, like our last hurrah without a kid in tow. It will probably be this summer and because of that I’m trying to take weather into consideration. I’m assuming that I will not enjoy walking around in extreme temperatures or humidity. So far San Francisco is leading with one vote, which is my vote. Because I came up with the idea. Any other suggestions?
